We love kids and we love this place. Many staff of our staff have been raised at HCC, some coming themselves since they were six years old. They want to give their young charges the fun, life-changing experience they were given.
Our staff are chosen for their experience, qualifications, sensitivity and commitment to making each camper’s stay a memorable one. They begin the season with a week of intensive training, and are supervised by a senior leadership team whose members have experience and education in such fields as outdoor recreation, theology, and child-care.
Our Leader in Training Program (LIT) offers teens an opportunity to become leaders with an emphasis on serving God by serving God’s children. The program gives HCC a wonderful pool of young people from which to choose counsellors, and the community is enriched by active, knowledgeable and faithful young leaders!
The two-year Leader in Training program builds leadership skills and experience that build a very strong staff team. During the first year, LIT campers lean more about camp life in an "outdoor classroom", extending to a week-long hike in Bruce Peninsula Provincial Park. The second year builds on Year 1 LIT experience. The development of skills in camp counselling including working with children, behaviour management, cabin group activities, communication, leadership theory and small group dynamics, and culminates in a week-long placement that can be used for community service hours.
